1. About us
We are Skillpoints Ltd, an educational company based in Greater Manchester. We are building learning tools for students. This policy explains in plain language how we look after personal information. We are the controller of the information described here.
2. What this policy covers
This policy covers this website, skillpoints.co.uk, and any emails you send us. Our first product, Revise Next, is still in development and is not yet available. When it launches, it will have its own privacy policy, written for the students who use it and the parents and guardians who support them, and that policy will apply to the app and its website.
3. Our approach to privacy
Because we are building products for young people, we follow these principles from the start:
- We collect as little personal information as possible, and only when we need it.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
- We do not track visitors to this website.
- We design our products to keep students’ information private.
4. What we collect today
This website has no accounts, forms, analytics or tracking, and we do not collect personal information through it. The only personal information we handle is:
- Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and what you write. We use it only to reply to you and we delete it shortly after we have replied, unless we have a legal reason to keep it.
- Technical request data. Like every website, the company that hosts this site receives technical information when your browser loads a page, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time. We do not collect, look at or analyse it ourselves. It is handled by our hosting provider to deliver and secure the site.
We do not make decisions about you using automated processing.
5. Why we use it
We read and reply to emails because it is in our legitimate interests to respond to people who contact us. We do not use your information for marketing.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files that a website can store on your device. Here is exactly how this website uses them:
- Non-essential cookies: none. We do not use analytics, advertising, social media or tracking cookies, and we do not load third-party scripts, fonts or embedded content that could set them.
- Essential cookies: this website does not set any itself. If our hosting or security provider sets a strictly necessary cookie, for example to protect the site from abuse or keep it running, it is used only for that purpose, does not track you, and expires quickly.
- Local storage and similar technologies: none.
Because we only use strictly necessary technology, UK law does not require us to ask for your consent, so you will not see a cookie banner. If we ever add anything that is not strictly necessary, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.
You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Doing so will not stop this website from working.
7. Children and young people
Our products are being designed for students, many of whom are under 18. This website is for parents, guardians and students who are old enough to contact us themselves. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us for you, and please do not send us personal information about a child unless it is needed to answer your enquiry.
When our products launch, we will:
- explain what information they use, in language that students and parents can both understand;
- collect only what each product needs to work;
- never use children’s information for advertising or sell it;
- follow the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children’s Code) where it applies.
8. Sharing and where it is processed
We do not sell or rent personal information. Our email and website hosting providers handle information on our behalf, and only to provide their service. Some of them may process information outside the UK, in which case we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place. We may also share information where the law requires it, or where it is needed to protect a child or someone else from harm.
9. How long we keep it
Emails are deleted shortly after we have replied. Technical request logs are kept by our hosting provider for a short period set by that provider.
10. Security
This website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and we keep the little information we hold secure.
11. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Parents and guardians can make these requests on behalf of a child. Because we delete emails so soon after replying, there will usually be nothing left, but you can email hello@skillpoints.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
12. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us first at hello@skillpoints.co.uk so we can put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.
